When you guys get a chance, I would recommend that you take the time to read the Dare to Dream letters to the testers of 2012. What we are going through right now, they’ve been through before and they have some really good advice on how to prepare and perform on this test. One thing that stood out from these letters was that they ask the question of why I even train in the first place, why I feel the need to go for my second degree.
On the days leading up to orientation I was still indecisive as to whether I not I wanted to complete this test. I know how time consuming this test could be, and it being my senior year of high school and then college I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that. But my friend showed me a quote that got me thinking.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” –Mark Twain
I know I would regret it and always wonder about the “what if”, if I didn’t go through this test. I’ve would have missed the opportunity to grow and learn. I would've missed the chance to not only improve my martial arts, but learning how to be a better person at home and at school and wherever I go. This is why am I back. I know that everyone is constantly evolving, and everyone has the potential for greatness, we just need to find the willpower within ourselves to accomplish this.
On another note, today was the official start to conditioning on Saturday mornings. I’m sore, but it was a great workout. Everyone had fantastic energy for it being so early in the morning and you all motivated me to keep going. Good job everyone!
Hi Jenalyn,
ReplyDeleteI like your quote from Mark Twain. I tend to agree with it.
Also in my life I have found that new experiences are opportunities and they should be snatched when they are available.
I was also impressed with the performance of the folks who were only chest high to me.
They all have a lot of grit.
Steve
CGN Jenalyn, I am inspired by what you just wrote! I am very glad that you decided to test for 2nd Degree. You are going to discover so much more potential in yourself than you already know about. :o)
