Out of routine

Hey everyone I have had a hard time sticking with my routine of blogging and all my tracking lately so I am trying to get back on track. Two weekends ago I went to Spokane and did a 12k race. It was really fun but I have started having problems with my knee. I tried to rest from my running last week and then when I ran yesterday it started to hurt again. I am worried because we have so much training to do and my half marathon is this coming weekend. I am going to try to rest it more this week in hopes that it will be in good shape for the race. The idea of resting is frustrating to me so it will be a challenge this week.
So  now on to week 18's journal topic.
What age group do I represent? What kind of an example do you feel you are setting for future testers in your age group? I am 27 years old and started my martial arts training in 2009. I never did martial arts as a kid, but once I started as an adult I haven't been able to get enough.  When I was younger I was not the athletic type, I played a few sports but never really excelled in any area in particular except for music. I never really worked out regularly and did not lead a life style of fitness. Looking back I would have never expected to have the goal of becoming a black belt and now I spend the majority of my free time at the studio and love every minute of it! This test has also led me to pursue running. Before this I had never ran more than 3 miles and now those are my easiest running days. I am now training for a half marathon, and while as of yet I have no desire to do a full one, I am confident that will continue running after this test is over.  I hope that my example for other testers is that it is never too late to challenge yourself beyond what you ever thought you would or could do. It is important that you push yourself to your own limits and set a challenge for yourself at what you are capable of, not based on what others are doing around you.

Aspire to inspire!

  1. Chels,

Try not to forget when your knee hurts or other body parts hurt it is a message to you. As my doctor is fond of telling me most people who suffer from sports related injuries either don't let their injuries heal or go back to their training before being completely healed. Otherwise it will keep coming back.

Knee injuries are tough to deal with. Most folks don't realize how much they use it until it hurts when every you sit, stand, twist, etc.

Take care of yourself and you will get there.

    Steve
